3 Pressure Washer Care Tips

by Ethan Mccoy

Avoiding issues with a pressure washer will require you to understand some of the steps need to keep these devices problem-free. To this end, the following tips should help you to keep your pressure washer working to work efficiently.

Inspect the Nozzle Prior to Using It

Before you use the pressure washer, it is important for you to thoroughly inspect the nozzle of the unit. This might seem unnecessary, but it is possible for the nozzle to become clogged. A clogged nozzle can contribute to the pressure washer malfunctioning. In some instances, it may even cause the seals to fail, which can lead to expensive damage and potential injury. By simply cleaning the end of the nozzle, you can greatly reduce the risk that you will experience these problems.

Empty the Reservoir After Each Use

Following each use of the pressure washer, it is important for you to empty the reservoir. This might not seem like it is an important aspect of pressure washer care, but it can prove invaluable. Leaving the water in the reservoir can make it a target for insects and animals as well as making it more likely to grow mold. If mold starts to grow in the reservoir, it can contribute to a serious clog forming. For those that have made the mistake of leaving the water in the reservoir long enough for mold to grow, the entire system should be disinfected prior to using it so that these colonies will not start to spread throughout the internal workings of the system.

Know When to Use Fuel Stabilizer

If you will not be using the pressure washer for an extended period of time, you will want to make sure that a fuel stabilizer is added to it. Over time, gasoline and diesel will start to breakdown. This can result in the system failing to work or even suffering damage. However, fuel stabilizers will help to prevent the fuel from experiencing this type of degradation. For this reason, you will need to add these substances whenever you will not be using the system for several weeks or longer and it has fuel left in the tank.

A pressure washer can be an expensive tool to buy, and this will make it important to protect these systems against routine problems. If you need more information or assistance, be sure to contact local companies such as Boyce Industries.
