4 Ways To Keep Your Neighbors Happy During A Home Renovation

by Ethan Mccoy

Neighbors are important. After all, a less than ideal relationship with your neighbor can lead to quite an unpleasant living experience. For this reason, it's always a good idea to keep your neighbors in mind, especially when it comes to a major home renovation. If you're about to embark on this project, not only do you want to be mindful of your needs, but also those that live around you. Here are some helpful points to keep in mind.

Do Unto Others

Keep the do unto others mantra in mind. In terms of your renovation, don't do anything to your neighbors that you would not be okay with if the tables were turned. For example, if the contractor's vehicle is always partially resting on your neighbor's lawn, given the amount of effort you put into maintaining your own lawn, this is likely something you wouldn't enjoy. In this case, it's your responsibility to speak with the contractor about finding a better place to park.

Give Notice

Make sure you're giving your neighbors notice about the upcoming project. While you don't have to warn the entire neighborhood, at least warn the owners of the houses that directly surround your property. This exchange gives them the opportunity to express any concerns, and they may even tell you something like it's okay for the contractors to park their vehicles in front of their home. Typically, neighbors will welcome this information and find it quite considerate on your part.

Rent A Dumpster

Rent a dumpster to store all your waste. It doesn't matter if you're embarking on a small project like a bathroom remodel or you're building an additional room on to your home, you're going to have a lot of waste. After a long day at work, your neighbors would much rather see a neat dumpster on your property storing your waste than to see it scattered all over your lawn. This tip won't just keep your neighbors happy, but it will help keep you sane too.

Keep Time In Mind

Always keep the time of day in mind. Ideally, you should be trying to get the construction team to work during normal working hours, such as from 8:00am to 5:00pm, since most people will be away from home during this period. Starting too early in the day or working into the night can create sound complaints. Additionally, if you're going to have work performed on the weekends, try not to start too early as most people sleep in on these days.

Make sure you're keeping your neighbors in mind for a less stressful experience. For more information, contact local professionals like TCM Sweeping and Disposal.
